‘Past the point of no return
The final threshold
The bridge is crossed
So stand and watch it burn
We’ve passed the point of no return.’
Yes, my friends, we got the point of no return. We got in the end of March, and there’s no way to come back. Is the end of the month dedicated to ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, but a new one will come. The Phantom can be back someday, who knows?
The last post of this show is dedicated to ‘Past The Point Of No Return’, of course. Who doesn’t like it? It’s the game of seduction by Erik. The Phantom knows so well how to play with Christine, and she let him play. I’m not sure if she is conscious of this game and she is drifting. Or maybe she is manipulated by Erik without knowing. I can’t tell.
Anyway, Christine knows at some point that she is singing with Erik, but she doesn’t stop and stay with him. She realises about the love he feels for her and she has some feelings for him too.
This evil and macabre game is just amazing. The song is written by the Phantom for the Opera he created, ‘Don Juan Triumphant’. The lyrics express the emotions he feels for her, the passion and obsession for her. The tenor changes so Erik can sing with her and feel the moment and express those feelings directly to her. It’s startling.
Erik and Christine get to the point of no return. The great finale is about to come, anything will be the same. The game is over, it’s time to choose. And it’s going to be hard.
How do you feel about ‘Past The Point Of No Return’?
