The Wizard of Oz’ is one of the most beloved movies. The producers were aware of this, that’s why it was so difficult for them to find the best cast to play the roles. It wasn’t easy at all. According to Mervyn LeRoy, one of the producers, it was such a challenge because it was very expensive to produce. A lot of effects, sets and makeup were necessary. Judy Garland recognised that most of the members of the team were complaining a lot about the makeup. They even bet which one was worst. But after so many works, the audience loved the film and it became a classic.

Billie Burke was an American Broadway star. She became very popular after appearing in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ playing Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. She got married with the producer Florenz Ziegfeld in 1914 and had a daughter. After her successful career on the theatres, she starts to perform also in cinema. Her debut is in the film ‘Peggy’ in 1915.

She performed in 1938 with Judy Garland in the film ‘Everybody sing’ and the next year they worked together again in ‘The Wizard of Oz’. She admitted many years later that is one of her favourite films she had ever worked. This film was more similar to performing on stage for her. I guess because of all the effects and the customs.

The dress that Billie Burke wears as Glinda is stunning. Is huge, colourful and shinny. The first scene where she appears is memorable, with all the Munchkins dancing and singing. And we discover a good witch, completely different at the ones we are used to performed very well by Billie Burke.
