Hey mama, welcome to the 60’s
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh – ‘Hairspray’, the musical
‘Hairspray’ is a musical that opened on Broadway in 2002 and the next year won 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. In 2008 was transferred to London, getting 4 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical too.
The musical is inspired in an American film produced in 1988 by John Waters. The music was created by March Shaiman, with lyrics by Scott Wittman and the book by Mork O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan.
The show has always been a huge success, not only because of the awards, because the audience loves it too. It’s been produced in many countries, including many tours around UK and USA. This year, we’ll have a new adaptation, because the NBC announced that are broadcasting ‘Hairspray Live!’ on December 2016.
And of course we can’t forget about the film adaptation, released in 2007. It was directed and choreographed by Adam Shankman, with some celebrities such as John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer or Zac Efron. It was nominated to 3 Golden Globe Awards.
Have you seen the show or the film, do you like it?
